Job Summary

Plans and administers library services under the direction of the Dean of Library by performing the following duties personally or in conjunction with other librarians. The Distance and Instruction Librarian will serve as a primary reference resource by providing reference assistance via phone, email, and IM reference. This role contributes to maintaining and building relationships with students, faculty, and specified service departments. The Distance and Instruction Librarian will also be responsible for developing tutorials and outreach materials to support online and distance education.

  • Deliver a dynamic reference experience, which promotes inquiry and critical thinking and strives to produce information literate and technically proficient self-directed learners.
  • Knowledge of online learning techniques, including the ability to design library tutorials, videos, and interactive modules with Adobe, Camtasia and other software.
  • Serve as a liaison for a selected college, providing outreach, support and collaborating with teaching faculty to create and advance professional relationships that align library teaching objectives with course outcomes. Demonstrate knowledge of instructional design principles, information literacy concepts, and their connection with teaching and learning issues in higher education.
  • Maintain current expertise through participation in workshops, classes, professional associations and networks, and through continued awareness of the scholarly literature.
