Library Memories:

My first library memory is story time at our local public library in my very small hometown. I adored the children's librarian there, Mrs. Schmidt. She always had fun and interesting activities for us as did the library in general. One of my favorite memories is of a chalk art competition on the sidewalk in front of the building. My brother, who is now a professional artist, won. It is amazing how much of an impression these kinds of activities can have on you as a kid. Libraries really are so important! - Manda (CSU Librarian)

I have always loved reading and English class was always one of my favorite classes as far back as 1st grade and I recall the good Nun introducing us to the library on a short field trip to the Chicago Public Library nearby the school. I spent 30-years on active duty in the Navy and what inspired me when I was in 7th grade was another trip to the library when I found a book in the library that was about the U.S. Navy with photos of ships, stories of the boot camp experience and more photos, and Sailors in uniform. When I got older that earlier book and experience was what inspired me to join the Navy. - Ron Signore

One of my favorite librarians is Mrs. Kelly from the Foley Library. I do not know if she is still there but all the years working in child care and raising my children she was absolutely the best. She would come to our church day care for reading and activities and she was in charge of many a children's program throughout the summers. She also had the best personality that even my very shy children adored. - Laura Metz

When I was a kid, we lived in a very remote area and were only able to go to town once every 2-weeks (I even went to a country school for grade school!). When we did go to town, though, we always stopped at the library and the librarians were so nice, recognized us, and always allowed us extra time to check out books and movies! The library was small, but I remember it being where I developed my love to read and I still remember the main librarian, Gladys :) - Misti Kill

When the library was across from IT in Mayes hall, especially around the holidays, it was always my favorite room to visit. It was warm and inviting and smelled so good. And of course the girls are wonderful. When it moved to the present location it remained my favorite place. When work would get crazy and things felt hectic, stepping into the library was quiet and calm and still welcoming and warm - both the space and the people. I miss y'all being on site. - Elizabeth Kennington

My local library sponsored a Baby and Me class. It was such fun to bring my little toddler and spend some time singing and having fun. The librarian began every class with a song round. We all sang the round, and each child was mentioned by name with a special point about them (clothing, smile, laugh, etc.) that day. My little daughter was so pleased when everyone sang her name and sang about her blue hat. Precious times.
