Connecting Research to Writing

When you research a topic, you gather other people’s ideas from the sources you collect and integrate them in a report to form your own perspective on the topic. This guide is designed to assist you with this task by helping you to:

  • understand the purposes of different types of sources and which types to use to establish and support your argument
  • choose the most relevant information from the sources you select to support your argument

Utilize the "Next" and "Previous" links at the bottom of each page to advance through the guide, or use the tabs on the left to choose a specific topic you would like to learn more about.

If you have questions about determining the best sources to use or selecting information from sources to incorporate into your paper, use the chat box on the left to ask a librarian.
