Tips for Exhausting the Literature

Look for Related Dissertations

Students who have completed dissertations on topics related to yours have, theoretically, already exhausted the literature for themselves, so it can be helpful to look for related dissertations to see what sources other students used to support their research. They will often have referenced seminal works and other pertinent sources that you may not have yet uncovered.

Using the Dissertations & Theses Global Database

An excellent library database in which to look for dissertations is Dissertations & Theses Global.

Within Dissertations & Theses Global, you’ll not only be able to search for related dissertations, but once you find dissertations you can use the database’s handy options to quickly and easily skim their references, view other sources that have cited the same references, as well as explore similar dissertations based on the dissertation at hand.
