How To Do Research: Introduction

A guide on how to conduct academic research.

Welcome, CSU Students!

This guide will take you through the steps of the research process and give you tips and strategies to assist you on your research journey.

By developing a strategy to approach your research topic, not only will you be able to better focus on your topic, organize your search, and determine if you have thoroughly researched your topic, but you will also save time and increase your efficiency.

Remember that the research process is iterative; instead of moving through the process sequentially, as in a checklist, you may repeat the steps of the process as necessary in order to discover the best information to support your research topic. Indeed, the path to completing the research process is often long and arduous. Through thoughtful preparation, you will be able to effectively select a topic, research it, and produce a scholarly research work.
