The Research Process of Information Literacy

Identify the Best Sources of Information

For your assignment, you need information, but not just any information. You need information that will support the topic you are researching. Information is created with specific audiences in mind. Depending on your assignment, the information you need to fulfill its requirements may come from news, magazines, scholarly journals, or books.

Information is created for different purposes at different times. While initial information may be designed to inform, information created weeks, months, or years later may present an analysis of the event and offer theories on its effects and why it happened. If your assignment does not specify what kind of information you need, you have to decide what information you need to complete your assignment.

Scholarly sources take much longer to be published than popular publications and are more in-depth in their analysis and review.
